Club(s) played for: Mohun Bagan.
Played during: 1975-1991
Coach: Mohun Bagan
Distinctions: Mohun Bagan captain, India captain(?), Arjuna Award (1991)
Famous matches:
1. Against Pele's team Cosmos.
2.
Hailing from Shyamnagar a Kolkata suburb, Subrata (Bablu) transformed himself from a "markutey" player with a foul mouth to one of the all-time finest defenders of the country, with a foul-mouth. His "gaali" to the fellow players were dreaded by the juniors, and sometimes could be heard from the gallery (or the TV). But no one questioned his commitment to the game. He uniquely stands out (along with Monoranjan Bhattacharya of East Bengal) as one player of that era who didin't change his team. For many many crucial matches Mohun Bagan supporters could sleep peacefully knowing Subrata will be in the field. Such was his presence.
